It was an accident,my son didn’t kill anyone with a gun – Salifu Amoako
Bishop Salifu Amoako, a well-known religious leader and father of the 16-year-old boy involved in the tragic accident that claimed the lives of two young girls in East Legon on Saturday, October 12, 2024, has urged Ghanaians to stop discussing the incident.
In what appeared to be a defence of his son, Bishop Amoako emphasized that the accident was an unfortunate event and not an intentional act of violence.
The incident, which resulted in the fiery deaths of the two girls, has drawn widespread attention, partly due to the prominence of Bishop Amoako.
During a church service at the Alive Chapel International, where he addressed the congregation on Sunday, October 20, the bishop expressed frustration with the public outcry, arguing that his son did not commit murder but was involved in a tragic accident.
“It was an accident,” Bishop Amoako said. “My son did not carry a gun to kill anybody. He involved himself in a terrible accident, and I am not the one who did it, nor his mother. It is my name, that is why people are talking.”
He further expressed his belief that the intense public scrutiny was only due to his high profile. “If this was an Okada [motorcycle] accident, who would mention it? It is just because it is my name, so keep quiet and let’s see what the Lord will do.”
The accident, which occurred in East Legon, involved the boy driving a Jaguar that crashed and caught fire, leading to the tragic deaths of the two girls who were trapped inside.
The case has sparked discussions across media platforms, with many questioning the circumstances of the incident.
Bishop Amoako also condemned some church members who physically attacked a reporter from EIB Network after court proceedings on Thursday.
He emphasised the need for restraint and understanding in difficult times.
The Bishop called for compassion and dialogue, urging the community to consider all perspectives surrounding the incident.
“Control yourselves, ACI family. I urge you to have self-control. Some of you came to the court to disgrace me there. You didn’t behave wisely. You have added more battles to my battles already. What you came to do at the court is very disgraceful. You shouldn’t have done that.
“Do you know the damage you have done in my life? Now I am fighting what has happened to me and the media is fighting me. The case is now in the court. We don’t go to court to fight, but we go there to interpret the law.
“Some of you were lucky that you were not arrested. Some of you went there to mess up. By now, you should be in jail. So I don’t expect any one of you, I have not called you to come and fight for me. Now listen to me, I have not called you to come and fight for me,” he stated.
